ABS injection molding is a manufacturing process where molten acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) thermoplastic is injected under high pressure into a mold cavity. Once it cools and solidifies, the finished durable plastic part is ejected.
ABS is favored for its high tensile strength, impact resistance, thermal stability, ease of processing, and recyclability. It provides an excellent balance of durability and cost-efficiency.
Standard ABS does not perform well under prolonged UV light exposure or extended outdoor use. However, its outdoor durability can be significantly improved by applying paint, metal electroplating, or incorporating UV-stabilizing additives.
To avoid sink marks on thick sections, manufacturers can use compression injection molding, apply additional packing pressure, or design parts with thinner walls and higher thermal capacity molds.
